Markdown, PDF (with search and zoom), Word, Excel, PowerPoint, images, and syntax-highlighted code — without opening five other programs.

Split view
Two panes, side-by-side or stacked, each with its own tabs and scroll — perfect for writing against a reference.

Workspace snapshots

Everything else it does out of the box.
Projects, not piles
Organize documents into projects with cover images, colors, tags, and dashboards showing recent files and activity.
Tag any file
One tag system across every file type, markdown or binary. Filter a whole project down to what matters in a click.
TODOs from your own notes
Tasks parsed automatically out of your markdown files into one dashboard.

Every change is tracked as you work, so you can look back at how a file evolved — kept on your machine, never uploaded.
No cloud required
Everything lives in a folder you control — no sync service, no third-party cloud storage. The only online step is signing in once to activate your machine.

Frequently asked questions
Is my vault really private?
Yes. NoteVault stores everything locally in your vault folder. Nothing is uploaded.
Is NoteVault really free?
Yes. There's no trial, no subscription, and no payment info is ever requested — sign in with your Google account once and the app is fully unlocked.
Do I need an account?
A free Google sign-in, used only to claim a machine slot. NoteVault never sees your Google password.
Which platforms?
Windows today; built on Electron, so macOS/Linux builds are planned.
How many computers can I use it on?
Up to 3 machines per Google account, at the same time.
How do I switch to a new computer?
Deactivate the old machine from Settings → License to free its slot, then sign in on the new one.
Does uninstalling free up a slot?
No — deactivate it first from Settings → License (needs an internet connection to confirm with the server). Simply uninstalling leaves the slot claimed.
Do I get updates?
Yes — every update is free. There's no maintenance fee and nothing expires.
